Continuity of Operations Planning

Why is COOP Important?

For many organizations, there has been a large focus on Vulnerability Assessments and Emergency Response Planning, however, COOP and the overall structural considerations for responding to business interruptions has lagged in comparison. Few organizations have established formal security programs. Recent events that highlight the use of cyber attacks to cause physical/environmental damage highlight the need to address this evolving threat. Success starts with having a good plan so that responses to business interruptions are not ad hoc.

What does Continuity of Operations Planning provide?

COOP is designed to allow your organization to continue to provide essential functions during an emergency or catastrophic event.  An essential function is any business process that is still required regardless of the type of emergency that may be going on.  COOP will allow for your organization to maintain a high level of readiness, implement plans with and without warning (operational within 12 hours, and sustained up to 30 days), and maximize use of existing critical infrastructures, facilities, and resources.

What COOP is NOT:

COOP is not an Emergency Response Plan. ERPs are intended to ensure the safety of personnel.  Depending on the emergency, the COOP plan may be implemented at the same time as the Emergency Response Plan.   Our COOP process will identify and prioritize your essential functions and services.  For these essential functions, Turnkey Solutions will help you to identify staffing levels, vital records, equipment, alternate facilities, and vendor data.

Activities supporting continuity of operations and incident response cannot be accomplished effectively without the integration of professional security experience, operations experience, communications experience, and the tools/data for executive decision-making.  Turnkey Solutions can provide your organization with the expertise needed to develop your COOP program.
